Looks - Why is a Raven like a Writing Desk?

"Why is a Raven like a Writing Desk?" will be a question that I will be always asking...

Hey everyone! Another styling shoot is finally out~ This is actually an accident and it was totally unintentional. So Effy was doing an assignment for her Film class, and the concept were about this girl who has multiple personality disorder. That is the general idea, and the finished product of the film will be posted later so look forward to that! Personally, I really like this shoot because the photos are just awesome and dark. It has this rebellious teenager type of thing going on. The photo actually depicts the deranged crazy very well so I think the title is very fitting considering how it is a riddle that is not suppose to make sense.

The look today is totally black. It goes from the black bootie, to the black jeans, then my black shirt, and lastly the black jacket. Thank god my hair is dyed blonde, or I'll probably look like a floating head! Black is really a color that looks good no matter how you wear it. Of course, some may think that it is spring time and black is a rather grim color, but as long as the fabric and texture is light enough, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Shopping - Summer Shoes

Another post for the summer shopping frenzy! Today's a great day in New York City. I cannot even begin to express how excited I am. Just sitting all day in Washington Square Park. I mean, I am in class right now, but that is only because I have to. Yeah, I'm not a great student, but it is only because I want to be outside so badly. Here are a selection of shoes on LYST! Go shopping fashionistas, I won't bore you with more words now!

Go!

Shopping - Edgy Accessories

Today's focus is on accessories. The selection I made are more edgy and slick than sophisticated and feminine. The price is a bit higher today because I didn't think there are any good ones that are on the cheaper side, so I had to raise the price. A lot of the things we've been seeing a lot lately is spike and hard edges. Such as the Pamela Love ring or CC Skye bracelet. The Eddige Borgo earring is also very awesome. And of course, there has to be an Alexander McQueen skull ring to complete the edgy set.

So what do you think? Go shopping now!

One White Shirt, Two Ways Styling!

White shirt is always the simplest and easiest thing that goes with all kinds of looks. Wear it with a long black dress it could be a little bit formal and chic looking. Tug it into a boyfriend shorts, it could be casual and street style. A pair of white converse and a beanie would make this look even cooler.

Looks - Urban Outfitters Skull Shirt!

The sunshine makes me so happy!

The weather has been very badly lately but it finally got better yesterday! It was a glorious day with bright sun and nice breeze. As you can see above, I was very pleased. To celebrate such a great day, we did another photoshoot! We are not having as much photoshoots lately because it is the joyful midterm season for us students, and we need to study before we can take pictures. Plus the weather wasn't ideal anyways. And now we can finally have a new set of photos out, yay!

The main garment to introduce is the skull shirt from Urban Outfitters, which is currently on sale for $9.99. It's a great deal in my opinion. The shirt is incredibly comfortable, flowy, and the design in the front is just so creative and awesome that it has a bit McQueen-esque to it (probably because of the skulls). I paired the shirt with a knitted jacket from American Eagle, jeans from Forever21, and a pair of knee-high boots from DSW. The look is more casual and comfortable, emphasizing chicness. I wore it to my midterm today actually. There are also a lot of different ways to dress this shirt, which is its advantage too since you can change the tone so easily by simply using different outerwear. Go check it out!

Although the shirt is the focal point, but these boots are awesome nonetheless.

Shopping Cheap - Head-to-Toe of the Blues

Blue has always been a gorgeous color that many adore (other than black and white of course). Many of you may notice that "blue" is one of this spring season's "in" colors (specifically Monaco Blue), along with red, emerald, and yellow. Many celebrities now are wearing this beautiful color, such as Emma Stone, Rihanna, and Jessica Chastain. So basically  a person will be a walking "blue". If a person has the ability to pull this off, they will automatically become the style icon on the streets. Here is a simple guide to helping you become that style icon. Below are shirts and bottoms, dresses, jewelries  and bags that will help you! The prices of each pieces are kept under a $50 budget so you won't break the bank as you become the central of attention.

How to pull off such a unique look? Attitude! A lot of the times when one does something bold, the best way to not get "noticed" or judged is to have the right attitude. Strut with pride!

Original - "STEREO-TYPE" MusiCouture Fashion Show + Lookbook Shoot

Stereo-type  Collection
Gallatin School of Individualized Studies is one of the schools in New York University. It's a great school for people who has a lot of different interest and have no idea how to channel it into a traditional major. Another cool thing about Gallatin is that it holds an annual runway show ever since 2009. The first year starts with a eco-friendly themed show, and 2010 was a gender-awared theme. This year, the theme is "music". The show is to explore how music and fashion are interconnected. The name of the show is MusiCouture.

The name of my collection si named Stereo_type.

Music and Fashion are connected in many ways in my opinion. Whenever I am designing something I always turn on the specific tone of music and start sketching. For this collection, Stereo_type, it is about combining the two cultural identity I have. I was raised in Taiwan until seventh grade and studied in boarding school for five years. The eastern and western culture inside me clashes a lot of the time and I had an era of identity crisis. However, I understand that sometimes it is the multiple identities and cultures that make one so beautiful. This collection combines my eastern heritage and the western culture, exhibiting the different side and colors of music in a fashionable manner. Each look is inspired by a specific type of music from one of the two cultures. There are the eastern traditional music and pop music, there are also the western classical, neoclassical, and pop music. The elements of the looks may be stereotypical, but the looks in general is innovative and modern, turning something that is old into new.

Looks - Prabal Gurung's Floral Crush Shorts

Well it has been a long time, but we finally got another styling shoot! Today we are featuring the super cute pair of shorts featured in the Prabal Gurung for Target - LOVE collection. The collection was sold during the mid-February (during Valentines Day) and it was an absolute shopping frenzy. When I first went to the store, it was already sold out and I was lucky enough to find it in the Target at New Jersey. The shorts was adorable and comfortable. The print is one of the signature prints in the collection (along with the "First Date Print").

Because the print is already so colorful and eye-catching, there is no need to match it with crazy tops or some big chunky jewelry. In fact, big jewelries may cheapen the short because of its adorable nature. I matched it with a black top and cardigan simply because I want it to stand out, but it'll do great with other color tops too as long as its something that coincide with the palette of the shorts. If you really want to pair it with a crazy top, make sure the pattern matches and is from the same corner of the color palette to avoid looking like a clown. I wore it with heels, but it is also perfect for sneakers or flats, as long as the color matches!

Shopping Cheap - Forever21 Spring Shoes 2013

I have so many pairs of shoes that my room doesn't have space to store them, and yet there are so much more pairs that I want to have. Here are the shoes that I think is pretty awesome and would love to own if possible. They are all from Forever21, well under $50 bucks, and quite good quality. There are three different themes I love for my spring and I think Forever21 did quite a good job of giving the buyers enough variety to shop. They are "Pastel.Light.Elegant", "Stud.Metallic.Punk", and "Casual.Cutout.Funky". Don't you think they are just awesome?

PRABAL GURUNG LOVE Target Styling

You may have all remembered the Prabal Gurung frenzy in Target. Prabal used his sense of print and added some incredible colors in Targets everywhere. Out of all of the different prints, my favorite is the "First Date" Print. They are all incredibly gorgeous pieces that are classy, chic, and very easy to dress for. However, some may tend to dress them with simple jeans or skirt, and not taking these tops to its full potential.

Here is a suggestion on how to dress it for the different persona that is in you! Adding a leather skirt, it can be dressed into a badass look, along with the studded booties. Then there are the classy white-gray shorts that can be quite formal that may be worn to a meeting (in the spring, of course, don't wear it in the winter and freeze!). Lastly, there is the simple jeans (of course) for the more laid-back look. However, don't go for the classic blue denim, but choose some other pastel color! then spice it up with jewelries that is also included in the image. Enjoy!

Looks - Gussy up for New York Fashion Week 2013!

Today, I was invited to a very special event: Alexander Wang and Robert Geller's runway show. They presented the autumn/winter 2013. So one will have to dress fashionably to attend such an important event. So? This is what I came up with, I decided to go with simple and sweet. I wore a pair of tights and a short blue tribal print skirt from Forever21, with a half sheer black shirt (also from Forever21) and a grey cardigan. Lastly, I complete the look by wearing these awesome black-golden heels, a Zara coat, and carried a black-and-white hand bag. It turns out to be a very chic look.

Even though today is the aftermath of Nemo the blizzard and it is really cold outside but I still sucked up the coldness and dressed professionally. It was very beautiful out in Washington Square Park because it was covered in white snow. Walking in the slushes, however, was a pain in the butt. What us girls will do for fashion.

The show itself was a great experience, which I will elaborate more later!

Looks - Human Anatomy!

Skeletons are commonly associated with death and other dark stuff, but why can't it be cute and fun? In today's shoot, I matched a pair of skeleton gloves (In pink, which is super adorabs~) with a skull shirt. The skull design on the shirt is specially designed and it is very meticulous.

The look in general still has a certain edge to it even though the pink gloves very cute. It is very comfortable to shop, visit museums, or hang out in this outfit since the denim-like leggings and soft knit shirt is comfortable and loose, along with the knit hat and the gloves to keep you warm and stylish. I chose to not put on even more jewelries such as necklaces because I don't want to crowd the graphics in the front.

So, what do you think?

Looks - Temperate Tuesday

Today is a lazy Tuesday. I didn't do anything besides painting and stuff. It's just one of those days that you don't feel well and you cannot bring yourself to do anything productive. Eventually, after finishign some pretty awesome things, I was finally able to start reading.

Well, this is the look of my day :) Like I said, it was a very relaxing day, very "temperate". Big, baggy tee, Leggings, Flat-rim hat. My new blonde-ish hair too!! Gotta Love the lazy days.

Looks - Cold.... Just So Cold

It was 31 Fahrenheit this afternoon. It was so cold. What was worse is the wind.

To prepare for an upcoming shoot for Embodied Magazine, I had to go to a local thriftique - AuH2O to gather enough garments to be featured in the shoot.

AuH2O is owned by a NYU Gallatin Alumnus, Kate Goldwater. The title of the store is a smart play of her last name. Au = Gold, H2O = Water. The selection of clothes in the store is great. They are mostly vintage, and there were some very cute knit sweaters there. What is even cuter are the accessories they carry. It is a thriftique that definitely worth the visit.

I decided to buy a purple knit sweater and have a mini photo shoot. The owl necklace is also new. :)

Not Born to be a model, but apparently I can pull it off.

Looks - A Hot Day in Winter.

So did anyone feel how hot today is? It's even 72 Fahrenheit degrees at one point today. II really appreciated the warm weather cause it has been very cold in New York City lately.

This is my third day into the spring semester, and I finally got the chance to take photos of my looks. This is about 5:30 in the afternoon, and I just came back from an entire day of class, so sorry about my very tired expressions.

I hope you like the look!!

Also, I want to take an opportunity to introduce a new writer, and also my very good friend, Effy! She is also the one who took those photos. She is going to be focusing on museum exhibitions, photographies, and other more fine arts related topics. We haven't really developed any specific ideas yet, but so far this is the case.

Life - Sunday Thrift-shopping!

It is so cold today! It kind of sucks how I don't have more pictures of my thrifting experience. Just too cold to pull out the camera. (it was 30F today, along with the wind.)

My look today is pretty laid back for a lazy Sunday shopping trip. I was wearing a Aztec print knit dress, black tights, Forever21 kicks and bags. Then I top everything with my J-Crew jacket. Just saying, this is not warm enough.

My look of the day!
Today I went to East Village to thrift and I end up with some scarves, tights, and a bracelet! I got all of these things from Search and Destroy, a very punk, rock type of store. There are some store decoration that really freaked me out, such as the zombie, the hanging mannequin, and separated (limb-by-limb by the way) human form. It was disturbing. Other than that, the selection was massive, with plenty of cool/edgy things that you can pick. The place is a bit grimy  and the style is more on extreme (studs and leather), but they are pretty cool.

Then we went to a couple more shops down 9th street. The stores are nice and cute, but the selection was not big and they are all vintage antiques so unless you have a very specific item/style, it might not be suitable.

Well, now, let's take a look with my finds!

Net Knit Shirt

Four Scarves

Awesome Thigh Socks

Super excited to put together an outfit especially with the scarves. I don't usually shop for scarves but now that I have them, I can't wait to have fun with them!! Will update with results!

Look - Back To College - Day 1

College is about to start! Has everyone start to plan out their looks yet? For my first day back to school, I want to go with something subtle and professional because I want to dress nicely but not too crazy since I"m not sure what to expect from my professors yet.

I'm going to first start off with a black sheer blouse paring with my favorite fitted snake print jeans, topping it all with a gray blazer jacket. I will be wearing a black ankle bootie and black accessories/make up. I'll be wearing my black peacoat that will keep me warm since it'll be cold.

It's a look that is hard to go wrong with since it is so safe, but it will give the professors a good impression and I can start the semester off with a professional attitude.
